THROUGH PLAY

Contact Us

Tree Top Child Development Center & Preschool in Ashland, WI, is a special place. We’re a child development center with a difference. We have been accepted nationally as a nature preschool through the Natural Start Alliance, a member of the North American Association for Environmental Education. A particular source of inspiration is Reggio Emilia, a small town in norther Italy whose infant-toddler and preschool programs have received worldwide acclaim.

Child-Centered and Play-Based

We view children as competent and capable. Our goal is to help children realize their potential by supporting the continued development of competence. We use guidance strategies to support children’s abilities to problem-solve as independently as possible. We believe children learn best through play because it makes learning authentic and valid to children. Our environment serves as co-teacher. Much thought and reflection goes into planning the environment to be safe, comfortable and inviting. To fully incorporate an emergent curriculum that promotes play, it is necessary to make daily observations through documentation, photographs, and videos. These anecdotes can be put into a child’s portfolio to celebrate the learning that is taking place. Based on these observations, we develop invitations to play. Our goal is to sustain and deepen children’s learning and development through utilizing their emerging interests.  Reflection is encouraged at all levels of our program. Children, families, and staff are all encouraged to engage, individually and with each other, in reflection about the interactions and experiences of the classroom.
