Long History in Child Development

Nature-Based Emergent curriculum

Our Classrooms

Tree Top Child Development Center & Preschool in Ashland, WI, has a variety of classrooms to help infants and children grow in a play-based development center. Below you’ll find some details of each.

  • Preschool Classroom

The preschool children follow a natural rhythm of the day that is predictable yet flexible. Following a child-led emergent curriculum, the children utilize the indoor classroom centers as well as spending much time outdoors in the play space and outdoor learning environment the children have named "The Enchanted Forest". They learn about the world around them through in depth exploration and discovery as the teachers scaffold their play.

  • Toddlers and Twos Classroom

Our toddlers and two-year-old classroom is set up for children ages 18 months to 36 months. The child led, play-based emergent curriculum allows each child to learn within their interests. At this stage they begin to navigate all the social emotional skills and supports through their exploration and discovery. The children follow the rhythm of the day in both indoors and outdoors and in our school forest.

  • Infants and Toddlers Classroom

Our infant and toddler room is open to children ages two months to 24 months. This age group learns through their senses by physically moving around and through social interaction. Non-mobile infants are carried around the environment, talked to, sung to, and are brought objects to observe and manipulate.

Some of the things we will work toward during the first few months will be to give your infant a feeling of being loved and cared for, and to help him/her develop specific skills by encouraging his/her interest in the outside world by stimulating his/her curiosity. We will accomplish this by being prompt in responding to your baby’s needs or discomforts, and by keeping each other informed of what his/her emerging skills are.

  • The Outdoor Classroom

All children including infants go outdoors each day except when there is inclement weather.

We utilize the outdoor learning environment for many hours of our day. In the outdoors we go for walks on foot for preschoolers or in the 6-8 seat buggy for the children two and under. We play on the playground or within the play space and utilize the prairie trails and adjacent Enchanted Forest. We explore our ever changing environment including the changes of our apple trees and planting a snacking garden through nature discovery.
